3WARE ANNOUNCES RAID 5 FOR STORAGE INDUSTRY’S LEADING ATA RAID
CONTROLLERS
RAID 5 for 3ware’s Escalade Product Line Achieves New Levels of
Performance and Value
LINUXWORLD, New York, NY.—January 31, 2001 - 3ware®
Inc., a pioneer of innovative storage solutions,
announced today the availability of RAID 5 for the company’s
Escalade 6000 product line. 3ware’s RAID 5 is the leading ATA RAID
controller for the open-source and Linux communities in addition to supporting
WindowsNT and 2000 platforms. The company’s Escalade family of
switch RAID controllers delivers performance and value that exceeds traditional
SCSI RAID controllers.
3ware controllers use standard ATA drives, reducing the total cost of the
ever-increasing demand for storage. In a recent independent evaluation
benchmark, National Technical Systems, Inc. (NTS*XXCAL), a leading provider of
certified testing and IT solutions in the industry, reported that 3ware’s
Escalade switch RAID controller, using ATA/100 disk drives, achieved 85MB/sec
of sustained throughput compared to Adaptec 2100S and Mylex 352 Ultra160 SCSI
controllers, both of which achieved 70MB/sec*.
“3ware’s switch RAID controllers are leading the industry in terms of
performance and functionality. 3ware’s Escalade controllers offer superior
capabilities such as redundancy, fault tolerance and high capacity by leveraging
ATA drives,” said Stacey Lund, vice president of marketing, 3ware. “Now, by
offering RAID 5, Escalade provides higher volume efficiency and addresses the
burgeoning cost of data-intensive environments. This provides new levels of
storage value for both the Linux and open-source communities, as well as the
storage industry overall.”
The suggested retail prices for the Escalade switch controllers with RAID 5
are $295 for the Escalade 6400 and $495 for the Escalade 6800. Current customers
will not be charged to upgrade to RAID 5 and will be able to download the
firmware driver-sets from 3ware’s website (www.3ware.com) beginning February 15, 2001.
About 3ware’s Escalade
The Escalade family of RAID storage controllers delivers higher performance
and reliability than traditional SCSI RAID controllers at a fraction of the
cost. Escalade controllers incorporate patented packet-switching technology
(DiskSwitch) to deliver unparalleled performance for data intensive
applications. 3ware’s DiskSwitch architecture, as implemented in the Escalade
6000 product line, accesses multiple drives simultaneously, yielding data
transfer rates of greater than 100 MB/sec in RAID 0 and 85 MB/sec for RAID 10
benchmarks while providing redundancy to meet the needs of the enterprise and
emerging Internet data-driven environments.
