The 9.2 Driver allows for use of memory greater than 4GB!
Article 13571
The 9.2 driver, version 2.26.03.015fw, has a revision that allows use of greater than 4GB of memory on the
following configuration:
  • Red Hat Workstation 4 using the in-kernel driver (version 2.26.02.001, or the
2.26.01.011fw or earlier driver from the AMCC web site).

  • EM64T system
With earlier versions, the kernel incorrectly handles an error sent by the driver regarding "invalid SGL length".
The issue is seen when the driver is loaded with existing units or when creating new units. The system crashes
with a long output of:

<vgacon_cursor> <twa_interrupt> <i8042>, etc, then hangs.

The 2.6.12-rc2 kernel, driver version 2.26.02.002, also allows a configuration with greater than 4GB of memory.
If you are unable to upgrade the driver or kernel you can workaround the issue by lowering your memory to 4GB.

NOTE: This may also be seen on other Operating Systems but has not yet been confirmed.
