Benchmarking the 3ware 9000 controller using Linux kernel 2.6

Benchmarking and tuning can be difficult, time consuming, and frequently provide inconsistent and inaccurate results. Additionally, many misconceptions about Linux I/O benchmarking lead customers to invalid conclusions. However, with the proper system setup and tuning, IO benchmarks can be achieved that are close to the maximum performance of the hardware. This white paper will try to provide some guidelines and assistance for benchmarking to try to help AMCC Storage customers are measure the performance of the 3ware 9000 controllers accurately.   Benchmarking the 3ware 9000 Controller Using Linux Kernel 2.6

Linux Kernal 2.6 Combined with XFS File System Boosts 3ware 9500S Performance

The new 3ware 9000 series SATA RAID controllers, available in 12, 8 and 4 port configurations provide over 400MB/sec performance with Linux kernel 2.6.x. Upgrading to Linux kernel 2.6.x from Linux kernel 2.4 provides the following advantages:
  • Better performance
  • Enhanced I/O infrastructure
  • Better scheduling for processes
  • Improved Security

    Reliable SATA Design

Anatomy of a Serial ATA Storage Enclosure As a company's demand for on-line and near-line data storage grows, the job of balancing the cost of equipment against performance and reliability becomes more and more challenging. New storage products based on Serial ATA architecture are promising lower costs while still providing very good levels of performance but not all SATA-based storage enclosures are alike.

It is important for those tasked with acquiring data storage systems to understand that a properly constructed storage enclosure needs to meet certain levels of structural, electrical, and environmental integrity. By having a good, fundamental understanding of what constitutes a properly built storage enclosure, lot of these issues can be avoided and the expectations of performance, reliability, and low system cost can be attained.
